I'm an RN of 5 years, recently transferred to an outpatient setting but quickly deployed back into the inpatient world as the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic hit the US. Being a nurse, I am accustomed to immediate changes and the need for flexibility. I have also taken care of patients with rare and contagious diseases before, so taking care of patients with corona virus did not seem any more daunting. What was daunting was the fear of potentially being a carrier of this deadly virus and infecting other people, people I love. After two long months caring for patients hospitalized with COVID-19, I remain healthy and am now back working in the outpatient setting. Rest assured, I will quickly respond back to the hospital in my role as a nurse when and if the time comes - regardless of that fear of being a carrier, because I know I will continue to do whatever it takes to keep myself and my patients safe, even at the expense of my own personal life. I am proud to be an essential worker. I am proud to be a nurse.
